Computer mice use mechanical microswitches (such as Omron D2FC or Kailh GM). Inside is a microscopic copper-alloy spring. After 1 to 2 million clicks, metal elasticity degrades.

We recommend starting at 50 milliseconds. Most switch chatter occurs between 10ms and 35ms. If your mouse still occasionally double-clicks on rare occasions, you can adjust the slider up to 60ms or 70ms. Casual users who click slowly can safely set it up to 80ms.
